WHO YOU ARE

"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God …" (John 1:12).

All have sinned, and no one is perfect.  If you really wish to change your life, and ask God for forgiveness for old things done, and accept Jesus as the way and the life, there is no one and no thing that can keep you from God's love and the kingdom of heaven.

You are not an animal with a consciousness, nor a body with a spirit.  You are a spiritual being with immortal potential in this body of flesh.  The flesh dies, but your true spiritual nature can live on to find the One who created you, in fact your Father in heaven, the God of all creation.

       "Here and now, dear friends, we are God's children" (1John 3:2).

"To prove that you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son, crying Abba! Father!" (Gal 4:6).

Immortality comes with believing in God and his divine Son, Jesus Christ, who lived among us 2,000 years ago.  When you believe in God and accept Christ your are "spiritually activated," your spirit is "set free."

"[I]n Jesus we are consecrated and set free" (1Col 1:31).

In a sense, your spirit is kept captive by the "flesh."  But when you recognize who you really are, a potential son or daughter of the living God, made in fact in the image of that God (made of spirit as He is Spirit), then you are indeed re-born, you are made into a new being, a spiritual being, and you will look up and see that the world looks very different than it did before.

    Jesus said,

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me;

he has sent me to announce good news to the poor,

to proclaim the release of prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind;

to let the broken victims go free,

to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor" (Luke 4:18-19).

An animal cannot have faith.  The fact that you can have faith shows that you are more than an animal, indeed a spiritual being.  When you do have faith, when you choose to activate the faith that is within you and believe in God and Jesus, Son of God, then you enter into your spiritual self.  At first this new self may not be very "strong" and you may have to eat spiritual "milk" rather than "meat," but as you continue in faith, then the spirit grows stronger.

Jesus came to show the way to God.  He is the "way and the life."  The only way to find God and enter into the kingdom of eternal life, is to live the way that Jesus did.  And Jesus lived a life of loving-service.

As the Apostle John said, "Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God.  Everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God, but the unloving know nothing of God.  For God is love; and his love was disclosed to us in this, that he sent his only Son into the world to bring us life" (1John 4:9).

Even as he was dying on the cross, Jesus sought to reveal himself to the children of God and sought forgiveness even for those who were killing him.  The rugged Centurion (Roman warrior) who had just nailed him to the cross, when he saw how Jesus died, said "Truly this man was a son of God" (Mark 15:39).

        "You, my brothers, were called to be free" (Gal 5:13).

So, "live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God" (1 Peter 2:16).
